Partial Solar Eclipse Party
October 14 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm| Free
During a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth with the perfect alignment to cast a shadow on Earth’s surface. With the right equipment, the Sun can be safely viewed while the Moon partially blocks its light.
On October 14, Red Deer will be one of the few places around the world that gets to witness a partial solar eclipse! This will be Red Deer’s best view of a solar eclipse until January 2029.
If you’re in the neighbourhood, please feel free drop by the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for a peak at the Sun through one of our many safe viewing options.
This event runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon, but here are the major eclipse times to be aware of:
Eclipse begins at 9:15 a.m.
Eclipse at maximum at 10:27 a.m.
Eclipse ends at 11:44 a.m.
You can also view the eclipse safely from almost anywhere in Canada as long as you purchase or borrow a pair of eclipse glasses beforehand. Eclipse glasses are available for purchase from the Nature Store in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for $3.50 each.
Free. Cash donations appreciated.
Drop-in, come and go as you please.
Please dress for the weather.
