I’m an avid reader and always have been. In fact, when my parents went to the Parent Teacher meeting with my grade 5 teacher, he told them to get me a public library card, because I had already read everything in the school library. Now, I’ve been given a great opportunity to read and review some of my favorite things….BOOKS! This might just be the best job ever!
Whether you have any experience with self injury or not, you can relate to the pain Kirsten (The main character) feels. "The Merciful Scar" tackles some tough issues that we’re not comfortable talking, or maybe even knowing about. It unmasks a real issue, through a story, that needs to be exposed. There is so much pain hiding in the body of believers and the only way to heal it is to reveal it and allow God to do what He does best…redeem and heal you. Though the story has its roots in dark subject matter it never dips into despair. There is humor, albeit dark at times, and a constant sense of hope. You just know God is up to something big and you can’t wait to find out what it is.
Nancy Rue has written more than 100 books, mostly for tweens and teens. She’s not afraid to tackle the tough issues that are facing them in today’s world. This time she’s teamed up with multi Dove award winning singer and best selling non-fiction author Rebecca St. James for a powerful story about deep wounds, both physical and emotional, and the redemption and healing that only God can bring. The story is strong and compelling with characters that could be anyone you know. Even that girl sitting next to you in church Sunday morning.
So, should you get this book? Absolutely! It gets a solid Weekend Reading Recommendation.
