I am an avid reader and always have been.  In fact, when my parents went to the Parent
Teacher meeting with my grade 5 teacher, he told them to get me a public
library card, because I had already read everything in the school library.  Now, thanks to Blessing’s Christian
Marketplace, I have been given a great opportunity to read and review some of
my favorite things….BOOKS!  This might
just be the best job ever!

 

In March 2010, thirteen-year-old Taylor Storch’s life was
tragically cut short by a skiing accident. 
The family of five was on holiday in Colorado, Todd having tweeted a
family photo out as the family hit the slopes that day, stating they were
having their “best family vacation ever”. 
By that evening that “best family vacation ever” had turned into a
nightmare.  With only a few minutes to
consider their options, her grieving family made the life-changing decision to
donate her organs.    

I just finished my copy of “Taylor’s Gift” by Todd and
Tara Storch, with Jennifer Schuchman.  It
is a moving story of hope in the midst of heartache, but what I loved the most,
and connected with the most, was the transparency of Tara and Todd in the
telling of their story.  They didn’t pull
any punches or try to gloss over their pain with pat “Christianese”.  To lose a child is devastating, hard and
potentially faith shattering. They tell their story truthfully, and with
integrity.  It only makes it all the more
powerful.  The book is “in your gut” heart
wrenching, you’ll need tissues to get through it, but the journey is worth
it. 

Five people were saved by Taylor’s Gift and because of the Taylor’s Gift foundation, started by her family after the accident, multitudes
more have become registered organ donors.  Are you registered?  I am, and I’ve
made sure my family is very aware of my choice.
