I’m an avid reader and always have been. In fact, when my parents went to the Parent Teacher meeting with my grade 5 teacher, he told them to get me a public library card, because I had already read everything in the school library. Now, I’ve been given a great opportunity to read and review some of my favorite things….BOOKS! This might just be the best job ever!
Colleen Coble has won many awards, and has more than 2
million books in print. To say the
least, she is a prolific writer. Her
stories of choice are romantic mysteries because she likes when justice prevails
and she is all too aware that sometimes that only happens in fiction. Bad things do happen to good people. Her journey through the writing of “Butterfly
Palace” was an outlet during a dark time in her life. Her dearest friend was dying of ovarian
cancer and having been there throughout her friend’s 4 year fight, Coleen had
to cling to Psalm 116:15(NIV) “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death
of his faithful servants”. She was
reminded that God didn’t intend death as a punishment and that her friend was
rejoicing with her Saviour. A comfort
when some days Heaven is simply too far away.
Colleen describes “Butterfly Palace” as a little like
Downton Abbey meets Jane Eyre. Mystery,
intrigue and a little romance tossed in to keep it from getting too dark. The characters are strong and brave, yet they
have vulnerabilities we can all relate to.
How can you recover from a mistake?
How can you forgive yourself even when you know God already has? How can you earn back the trust of someone
you’ve hurt? Another great twist is the
era. Since it takes place in 1904 the
police investigations are fascinating.
How do you solve a crime without forensics or profiling? There’s no Grissom and no CSI team ready to
catch a killer. So many questions are
answered in this entertaining trip back in time. And the twist at the end…You’ll never see it
coming.
So,
should you get this book?
Absolutely! It gets a solid
Weekend Reading Recommendation perfect for curling up with in your comfiest pj’s.
This book, along with MANY more, is available at Scott’s Parable. It’s also 15% off until January 25th.
